OUR STORY
Leslie and I both attended college at Washington State University (Go Cougs!). We shared a class together and knew who each other were, but only spoke occasionally. A mutual friend informed each of us that we had a secret crush. After being informed who our crush was, we scheduled for our first date to be on her sorority cruise. From the second we met for cruise, we hit it off and both knew that there was a special connection that existed between just the two of us. Our relationship continued for 2 years after our first date on the cruise However, due to long distance and other factors, we ended the relationship. Leslie’s mom told her that night, “if it is meant to be, he will come back into your life later”. How right she was!
8 Years Later…
We were both home at night and decided to take a chance at looking through profiles on Match.com. To each of our surprise, we were on the same site and paths crossed again. Mike first sent a message to Leslie, which turned into email exchanging for about 1 month. We finally decided that it was time to meet in person, have a cup of coffee and catch-up. Well, one cup of coffee turned into a few cocktails. Our second, first encounter created the spark we lost eight years ago. The only reason we separated that day was because Leslie had a dinner with friends. Mike kissed her goodbye and the next day we were cheering on the Sounders, followed by the Mariners at night. We continued spending more and more time together for the next 2 months. Mike was contacted about a job opportunity in San Francisco. Before Mike even had a chance to board a plane back to Seattle, he was offered the position. After performing a pro and con list (multiple times) and not wanting to lose each other for a second time, we decided to make the leap and move to start a new life together in San Francisco. At the time, neither of us knew what was to come in the next day, week, month, or year, however looking back on our first and second first encounter we know we made the best decision.
While in San Francisco, we booked a bike wine tour. Little did Leslie know, November 4th would be one of the happiest days of her life. Mike had two locations along the wine tour where we would become engaged. Unfortunately, both locations required uphill biking which Leslie was NOT happy about. At the end of the bike tour, no proposal occurred and we needed to head back home. Mike forced Leslie to keep riding a bit longer to get one last picture. While riding our bikes through Sterling winery, we stopped and took in the sites. Mike handed Leslie a rose and a note to read. Before she could finish reading the note, “Marry Me” by Train starting playing. Leslie immediately became confused as to what was happening and looked down to see Mike on 1 knee, asking her to be his wife. She immediately hugged me and kissed me until I broke away and asked “do you want the ring?” We rode our bikes back to the bike shop, so happy for the day and for the future to come.
