OUR STORY
Josh’s version:
Jane and I first met in September 2011 and… she promptly forgot about me. It wasn’t until the spring of 2012 when we were both deployed together in Turkey and after an awkward conversation one night that included the question “who are you again?” (from Jane of course) that we became friends. Our relationship started like any normal healthy relationship should: conquering 12th century castles, herding sheep in the Turkish countryside, dead bats, dropping Jane in the Mediterranean Sea, goofy 4 person tandem bicycles, spitting watermelon seeds at each other, and kiddy pools and slip & slides on Sunday fun day afternoons.
When we returned to Seattle we started discussing what our relationship would look like as a dating couple and I began to pursue Jane as a girlfriend. I made all the right moves on our first date. I took her on a strenuous hike 4 miles up a steep trail on Mount Si outside of Seattle and drank all the water. Dehydrated and sore, this must have been when she knew I was the one. I began bringing Jane to church with me in Seattle and our faith has been the cornerstone of our relationship together. We took an amazing road trip along the Oregon coast to San Francisco in August and our relationship continued to grow. The talks about marriage and our life together started to become more serious and our love grew into something very real. Our future family grew over Christmas when I surprised Jane with our chocolate lab puppy, Onion. He’s been the source of a lot of laughs and joy. I proposed to Jane on a dreary Seattle afternoon at Gas Works Park, one of our favorite parks in the city. We brought our favorite sandwiches from Paseo, our much used picnic blanket, and our very energetic puppy. Jane was not expecting the ring, but she could tell by my nervous awkwardness that something was different. I told her everything I felt for her and that I want to spend the rest of my life with her as her husband. With a tear on her cheek and a smile on her face, she said yes and we now look forward to our wedding day in May when two will be united as one under God.
Jane’s Version:
I first met Josh through a mutual friend, Emily, and proceeded to immediately forget him. Then six months later, we were both deployed to Turkey. We were working in my office and Josh started to ask me if I had spoken to Emily lately and my initial reaction was, “Who are you and why are you talking to me?” After the initial awkwardness of trying to remember who this tall guy was, we became best friends and we went on many shenanigans throughout Turkey.
My favorite memory was that the first thing Josh and I did together as a married couple was taking communion together. It was a very private moment between me, Josh, and God and the prayer Josh said was amazing and touching.
When Josh and I were planning the wedding, we decided that we just wanted to have fun and celebrate our marriage with our close friends and family. Since most of our family and friends were from out of town we wanted them to get a full Seattle experience by incorporating what we love about the city into our wedding. We choose Parsons Gardens because while we were dating we used to go on walks every week to Parsons Garden and Kerry Park so it had a special meaning to us. We love eating at food trucks all around Seattle and our favorite food truck was Maximus/Minimus so we decided to have them cater our wedding. Josh and I have a super sweet tooth and we eat ice cream at Molly Moon’s so we wanted ice cream to be a part of our dessert. We are also addicted to Honey Pecans at Chukar Cherries and buy them every chance we get so we wanted to share our addiction with our friends and family and decided to give them out as favors. We decided on mint and yellow as our wedding colors because one of my favorite colors is yellow, and we used those colors in the little details of our wedding.
My favorite memory was that the first thing Josh and I did together as a married couple was taking communion together. It was a very private moment between me, Josh, and God and the prayer Josh said was amazing and touching.
Special thanks to everyone that worked hard on Jane + Josh’s wedding day!
