Our Story: Justin and I first met for drinks after exchanging emails for about a week from an online dating site. We had both been living and working in Chicago for about 6 years before we met, although we later discovered that we had a string of coincidental similarities of being in the same place at the same time—it’s a wonder we never met before. We liked each other so much right from the start, and our relationship grew into such a natural, easy kind of love. The old cliché is true—it was as if we had known each other for years. As we made some big life changes and moved across the country to Seattle, it was clear that we were truly a team. We leaned on each other, supported one another, and started talking about getting married, and it felt we were just finding where we were supposed to be.
As we began planning the wedding, we wanted to incorporate the beauty of our favorite season, winter. We envisioned the muted colors and neutrals of the season coming through, and the colors reflecting the skies and trees and natural beauty. The juxtaposition of the branches and pine cones against the lush, creamy florals highlighted the industrial elements of Sodo Park against the soft fabrics of the lace and chiffon dresses. We also wanted to include some element of our love for the outdoors and skiing and snowboarding—Justin proposed while we were on a ski trip to Whistler, B.C., so we used the name of the ski runs as table names for our guest tables. The memory I will cherish the most from the entire day was when Justin and I did our First Look- it was so filled with raw emotion and gratitude for the other person. It was as if the culmination of the entire process and the gravity of what we were doing was all on display—and I will never forget my husband’s sweet face in that moment.
